Anyone having a grief, widows/widowers, caregiver, cancer, hospice or other group that would like to have their group listed should message us as well. These respite visits are short getaways to refuel and support individuals during tough times. Those that come to enjoy Tom's Rest will be ministering to those in need through your paid visits here and hopefully, gain some needed respite of your own. We have taken every precaution for distancing and cleanliness with the ever changing Covid policies for your safety and concerns. Most feel they are pretty much 'on their own' in this retreat area with the option for seclusion OR mingling if so desired. My deepest thanks to all who have stood alongside through this journey and continue to do so. May we collectively create TOM'S REST with Tom's intention and the passion he infused in us to carry it through to fulfillment.

We live on approximately 2.75 acres in NorthEast Bend. We are a family that lives on a simple hobby farm with goats, chickens, peacocks and a foster horse. Our chickens (yes we do have a rooster) are free range, and provide farm fresh eggs daily. Our goats graze in the pastures, and have fun around sunset playing in their play pen. Our senior horse is friendly and loves attention with brushing and petting. We have two barns, one where the animals live, and another that we sometimes rent out for gatherings, with a dance floor, tables, couch area, ping pong, horseshoe, and foosball. We have two indoor/outdoor cats, and a McNab named Belle. We do live on a busy street, so there is street noise if you are looking for super quiet, this is not the place for you. We live near a large park, Pine Nursery that is good for tennis, pickleball, sand volleyball, a small pond and trails for running, it also has a dog park. We feel away but are not too far from stores, down town, or even Old Mill. Our RV spot has full hook ups, with water, sewer and electric.

I think you will find the location convenient as it is only 15 minutes from the Redmond Airport, about 20 minutes to Sisters Oregon and downtown Bend is an easy 8 mile drive.There are pretty views of ponds joined by a creek and small waterfalls. The water features attract lots of wildlife! You will likely see deer, wild ducks, quail, hawks and many other types of birds. I even had a duck build a nest next to the pond last year and hatch a clutch of ducklings. There are several small Aspen trees and old junipers near the campsite next to the ponds. If the night sky and stars don’t take your breath away, the frogs will surely serenade you to sleep! There is a little view of the mountains as well. The site is centrally located for easy access to Highway 24 Highway 97. Trader Joe’s, Food 4 Less, Target, Starbucks and a outdoor shopping malls are only 5 miles away. Numerous restaurants are also only 5 miles from the home. There are more than a half a dozen breweries within 8 miles and 45 minutes to Mount Bachelor. The quaint little town of Tumalo is only 3 miles down the road. There you will find a cool taproom (The Bite) with outdoor seating, corn hole and yummy food carts. In addition, there is a great pizza joint and Tumalo Cider Bar. Tumalo State Park is less than 5 miles away. Riley Ranch Nature Preserve is also less than 5 miles away and well worth the trip!

Overview

Situated on the Metolius River in the Deschutes National Forest, the compact community of Camp Sherman—affectionately referred to as “Sherm” by many locals and regular visitors— welcomes campers and outdoor enthusiasts galore during the summer months, owing largely to its numerous campgrounds and cabin resorts and ample opportunities for outdoor adventure. Popular area activities include hiking, camping, mountain biking, and birding, and getting out on the water. Fly-fishing is particularly popular here, and the Wizard Falls Hatchery—which raises over 2.6 million fish every year—is just a few miles downstream.

The Mt. Jefferson Wilderness

Spread out over nearly 105,000 acres, this protected wilderness area features soaring peaks strewn with lush fir and pine trees and the occasional alpine lake. It's particularly popular with backpackers, so make sure to secure a permit before you head out.

When to go

Camp Sherman is at its busiest in the summer months, and if you want to visit between mid-June and Labor Day, it’s a good idea to book your campsite well in advance. The summertime temperatures here are warm, but not unbearable, and the presence of the Metolius River definitely cools things down. For a quieter time, consider coming in April, May, September, or October, when temperatures are generally pleasant enough for camping, but crowds are fewer.
